Capt. Sandy

Capt. Sandy Jackson here and I would like to give you a crash course on myself and my love of the water and boats. Practically all of my life I have been operating vessels like the Spirit of the Red and various types of other vessels. I have operated in a variety of places, not just on the Red River. I have traveled and worked on a lot of water in my “few” years of experience.

My maritime interests go back to the days of my childhood. My Grandfather was a boat builder and my father was the harbor master in Charleston S.C. where he operated harbor tugboats, docking and streaming ships into the port of Charleston and George Town, S.C. He also operated ocean going vessels running the eastern coast of the United States and to San Juan, Puerto Rico. My brothers are all boat captains as are my nephews, so I guess you could say it runs in the family.

I operated my first towboat when I was 12 years old and took two barges down the river with my father and from that day on I was hooked on the river life. I joined the US Navy when I was 17, went to Viet-Nam, served my country for 4 years and as soon as I got out I went back to the river. I obtained my captains license when I was 20 years old and now have over 35 years of experience on these old boats.

I am presently the Captain at Sam’s Town casino in Shreveport La. I hold a 1600 ton masters license for the inland water of the United States and near coastal. Prior to working here in Shreveport I operated river boats that ran from Cairo, Illinois to New Orleans, La., Pushing various size tows up and down the mighty Mississippi river.

My family and I now reside here in Shreveport and we love the people and the surrounding cities in our area. We look forward to seeing you soon and if you have any questions just send me an E-mail and we will find an answer for you.

Regards
Capt. Sandy Jackson
